Baby Goats born 15-21 January are still blessed with the gorgeous and highly sociable Venus-Jupiter sextile from the previous week although its power wanes at the end of this seven-day period. It is this bunch you will have to refrain from giving them too much responsibility as from an early age they could feel they have the weight of the world on their shoulders thanks to a Sun-Saturn square on 20 January. They tend to be defensive, always expecting to meet with disapproval, criticism or with crushing commitments. They fear upsetting authority figures yet also fear taking control in later life. You will actually not need to discipline these youngsters much at all as they are innately, ever-so-aware of right and wrong and hate to do the wrong thing. Make sure they have some light-hearted – although not idiotic – companions to keep them feeling cheerful. 4. Babies love toys that make noise
So you should probably look for toys that make soft and interesting noises; these will surely tickle their ears! Soft rattles and bells are two examples. Just make sure you don’t go giving gifts that make too much noise, as these will startle them.

5. If your baby gets a little extra, donate them

57% bought themselves Christmas gifts this year. Only 57%?!

Didn’t get the gift you wanted on December 25?

More than half of consumers surveyed planned to give themselves Christmas gifts.

Last Christmas, around 52% confessed to gifting themselves. This year, the percentage has risen to a whopping 57%, who said that they plan on splurging for themselves this Christmas!

A poll by the US National Retail Federation showed that 6 in 10 consumers gave personal gift for themselves, ranging from TVs, clothing, home goods, and just about any gift that’s normally not given by other people.

Aside from buying personal gifts, consumers also spent more on themselves in general, at an average of $130.43—that’s a huge leap from $112.20 last year.

And the reason for self-gifting? One source says that it’s because shoppers have been holding back for months, and the season is the best excuse to finally indulge.

Another reason is that they’ve been waiting for the huge discounts which often come during holiday sales. Usually, the malls and online shops are full of deals shoppers simply couldn’t pass up!

It’s not all good news though. With the rise of self-gifting and splurging, shoppers have been using their credit cards and incurring more debts. Obviously, this means that you have to think through your purchases carefully before making them.

What you need to know when returning Christmas gifts

The idea of getting the receipt from the gift-giver seems almost embarrassing and tacky, but believe me, there are ways to get it. You can simply be honest and say that the item didn’t fit or you already have the exact same thing.

4. Check the deadline
Your holidays may be loaded with errands and chores, but you need to make time to get the gift item replaced. Once the deadline strikes, you’ll have a difficult if not impossible time exchanging the item.

5. Check online retailers and brick-and-mortar stores
Some online retailers will allow you to exchange the items through their brick-and-mortar stores. Some only allow returns through mail. Either way, you have to figure out and negotiate the best way to have the item replaced.

6. Defective items must be returned
Even if they’ve already been opened and taken out of the box, defective items are generally allowed to be returned. Just to be sure though, return them the soonest you can.

7. Some gift items cannot be returned
Don’t fancy the personalized pen or notebook you were given? Too bad, because if you’re name is engraved or embossed on the gift item, you most likely won’t be able to return it. The same goes for clothing items and cosmetic products; for reasons of hygiene, you can no longer part with them.

1 in 3 Brits will go into debt this Christmas

44% of Brits are already in debt because of their outstanding credit card balances. But this isn’t stopping them for spending more this holiday season.

In fact, 31% are ready to spend more than they can afford this season, even if it means plunging into debt. The research by YouGov further reports that the debts will come mostly from credit card balances or the use of their overdraft. Brits will also be borrowing from their relatives or friends, or take out a loan.

And the ultimate reason why Brits will be overspending to the point of debt?

Over-commercialization is blamed for the debts Brits will incur. Children have been pestering their parents to buy what they want for Christmas, even if it’s clearly beyond their financial capacities.

Instead of considering this as an opportunity to teach children the value of frugality and simplicity, parents end up feeling guilty and buying expensive gifts.

Obviously, parents need to understand that buying them gifts won’t make them better parents.

Two in three gift cards don’t expire and are now reloadable

One thing people used to hate about gift cards is their unreasonable restrictions. Most of these gift cards sound so good on paper, but usually come with towering fees and limitations.

All that has changed, though, as gift cards have become more transparent, accessible, and better than ever.

Recent legislation, such as the CARD Act of 2009, requires retailers the disclosure of all the fees consumers must pay when using a gift card.

The law also requires gift cards to have an expiry period of no less than five years. With these measures in place, gift recipients don’t have to stress over using their gift cards right after they get it.

Prepaid gift cards benefited the most from these gift card regulations. In fact, prepaid gift cards now have a purchase of just around $2.95, compared to the usual $4.95 a few years ago. Take precautions when shipping gift cards

Getting insurance for your mail might sound like a smart decision. However, don’t be surprised if your insurance claim gets denied in the event that your gift cards get lost in transit.

Insurance policies for gift cards sent through mail have a maximum price, often determined by the insurance premium. No matter how much the gift cards you sent cost, you’d get no more than the max amount of your insurance policy.
